Life is a Full Contact Sport – By Keaton Van Bryce ‘The Authentic Maverick’

 

Have you ever observed very young children’s determination, focus, and burning desire to learn new skills that expand the size of their universe? We have all witnessed their struggle to get to a kneeling position then learn to crawl to be mobile and in contact with the outer boundaries of what they see. They quickly observe older siblings and adults having more freedom of movement and greater access to the world they see. Seemingly, in the blink of an eye, children rapidly learn how to stand, walk and run to accelerate full contact with their surroundings, pets, and other humans.

So begins the quest to become a fully functioning human, continuously expanding the universe, by learning new skills. Along the way, they will have experienced bumps, bruises, skinned knees, elbows, and chins, and learn there is a price to be paid in the balance in life.

When finally reaching adulthood around the age of twenty-five, the lessons in the balance in life is more than just a physical attribute due to societal expectations on behaviors that define a successful life. The jump from childhood to teen years is relatively easy, then is followed by the entry into young adulthood. Each stage is accompanied by learning more on how to better control emotions and problem solve new life challenges.

The transition from young adult to middle age becomes much more complex due to a myriad of memories that have accumulated along the journey in life. Each person will have many positive, successful memories combined with other memories of negative failures in life.

As the emotional bumps and bruises begin to pile up from full contact with the world, the natural reaction is to isolate these negative memories and push them to the back of the mind while continuing to juggle all of life’s responsibilities as we travel through life, instead of resolving them to heal. These emotional injuries aren’t initially visible to the human eye and can’t normally be observed until someone starts to struggle in life. The challenge becomes one of maintaining complex emotional balance by developing survival skills. For example, making a living with financial security, developing new relationships, maintaining old relationships, growing in careers, improving physical fitness levels, taking courses, planning for retirement, planning for holidays, pursuing hobbies and interests, staying healthy. At the same, by trying to stay current with world events that could potentially have a profound effect on life going forward, we still carry the emotional scars, pain, and burdens.

There are only 16 productive hours in a day to accomplish the juggling act of life. The weight of unresolved issues of past memories combined with the massive information overload that individuals have to wade through each day, can put a person out of balance. When the realization hits people that they’re unable to continue juggling all the responsibilities they’ve taken on, what tool kit can be used to resolve issues and to get back on track in life? How will an individual get back into balance to resume their juggling act in life? Some people are lucky to have a support system of family or friends who will take time to listen and help them deal with their issues. Unfortunately, most people have dysfunctional families and may not have developed in-depth relationships or qualified people around to guide them. Where can the average person find solutions to deal effectively with the issues that have been unresolved for years and now present themselves as boulders in the path of life?

Warren Redman, an Emotional Fitness Coach, created “The Nine Steps to Emotional Fitness”, along with several other books on the subject, to give people the tool kit to unlock any unresolved issues in life. Warren also developed specialized educational courses for people to learn and practice using the tools to deal with their personal emotional barriers.
